Troubleshooting wrong/missing/broken fav icons in JDownloader

JDownloader automatically downloads fav icons for all services that you are using and caches them in the JD install directory.
Sometimes icons can be wrong or missing because for multiple reasons:

  • Website was down when JDownloader tried to download icon the last time
  • Website has changed the fav icon but JDownloader still has the old icon in cache
  • Website has multiple fav icons and for some reason JDownloader downloaded the wrong one
  • JDownloader is unable to fetch the icon due to Cloudflare or similar

How to reset all fav icon related settings and caches:

  1. Go to Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Search for FavIcons.lastrefresh -> Reset this to default
  2. Close JDownloader.
  3. Navigate to [your JD install dir]/themes/standard/org/jdownloader/images/fav
In this folder, either delete all images (recommended) or delete the fav icons for the websites you are having problems with if existent.
  4. Start JDownloader.
After some time, JDownloader should re-download fav icons for all websites you are actively using (more about this down below).

How does JDownloader decide, which fav icons to download- cache and display?

  • Some fav icons are hardcoded and thus always available
  • Fav icons are downloaded from the source website for all websites that you are actively using.
You can trigger this with the following actions:
    - Add an account for a website
    - Add download links for a website

How frequently are fav icons refreshed?

Fav icons are refreshed every 7 days after their internal last updated timestamp.

Why doesn't JDownloader just automatically download fav icons for all websites it supports?

To protect your privacy:
When a fav icon is downloaded, the target website will know your IP address.
For this reason, JDownloader only downloads fav icons once the user performs actions that make JDownloader access the target websites anyways.
